Food Waste – the law is changing

Amendments to the duty of care requirements in Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act (1990), introduced under the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012, requires businesses to take all reasonable steps to separate dry recyclables and food waste for collection.

From 1st January 2016 the threshold for businesses to separate food waste will drop from 50kg to 5kg per week. Waste producers failing to separate material correctly are liable to fines of up to £10,000.

All our customers should already be compliant with the new legislation but if you have any questions or concerns please get in touch as soon as possible.

The good news is that recycling is the easiest way to reduce your waste costs. Ask us about a waste audit to identify potential cost savings across all your waste disposal.
