2013 – A Big Year for Waste

The big news this year is the introduction of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 which make a number of changes related to the collection and disposal of waste in Scotland. You need to be ready by 31 December 2013. Measures introduced by the Regulations which will affect your business include:-

• a requirement for businesses to present dry recyclables (metals, plastics, paper, card and glass) and food waste of more than 50 kg/week for collection from end of 2013, with those producing less than 50kg/week exempt until end 2015

• a ban on materials collected separately for recycling going to landfill or incineration (end 2013)

Your Health Check

We will be in touch with all our current customers, by phone or in person, over the next few months as part of our regular customer care process, reviewing the services we provide to ensure they are still suitable for your needs. At the same time we will undertake a one-off health check to audit your waste procedures and confirm that all required materials are being recycled. If we believe that you already comply with the new regulations we will issue you with a certificate of compliance. If you’re not quite there yet, we will advise you on the steps you need to take to meet the legal requirements by the end of the year.
